Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, is rewriting history at the UK box office. The Yash Raj Films production has grossed an astounding GBP 1.016 million in its second week, becoming the highest second-week grosser for any Indian film in the UK. The previous record-holder, Pathaan, had collected GBP 938K in the same timeframe.
What makes Saiyaara’s performance even more exceptional is that no other Indian movie has crossed the GBP 800K mark in its second week—until now. The film recorded the second-biggest second weekend ever for an Indian release in the UK with GBP 507K, just behind Pathaan’s weekend tally of GBP 701K. But where Saiyaara surged ahead was in weekday collections, consistently posting robust numbers and crossing the million-pound mark for the week.
The film’s total collection now stands at GBP 1.56 million after two weeks. Thanks to the ongoing summer holidays in the UK, which have traditionally supported weekday moviegoing, Saiyaara has seen elevated footfalls. However, analysts note that the scale of success still exceeds expectations.
Reaching GBP 2 million in the UK is a rare feat for Indian films, achieved by only fifteen movies so far. Just two years ago, the number stood at eleven, as the market was believed to be in decline. However, the tide seems to have turned. Four films crossed the GBP 2 million mark in 2023 alone, and a few others came close.
With its current pace, Saiyaara is expected to cross GBP 2 million as early as Sunday, if not by Tuesday. The film is now eyeing GBP 2.5 million comfortably, and if momentum continues, it could even surpass GBP 2.72 million, which would make it the third-highest grossing Indian film ever in the UK. Only Pathaan and Jawan have crossed the GBP 3 million mark—another milestone that now seems within Saiyaara’s reach.
For a film with relatively new faces, Saiyaara’s performance is nothing short of a blockbuster overseas run. All eyes are now on how the film performs in its third and fourth weeks, which will determine whether it can join the elite GBP 3 million club.
